How to cook roast pork in the oven?
Quick cooking
Cooking your roast pork in the oven is the most common cooking technique. This method is very simple and effective and gives a delicious result.
First, place your roast pork in a dish suitable for cooking in the oven which is approximately the size of the piece of meat so that it can properly bathe in its juices when cooking.
Then pour a drizzle of olive oil over your roast and accompany it with the flavorings you like (for example a few cloves of garlic and a few herbs)
The cooking time for your pork roast varies depending on its weight. In the oven, you should allow 30 minutes of cooking per ½ kg. If your piece of meat weighs 1kg, cook your roast in the oven at 400˚F for 1 hour. If your roast weighs 2.5 kg, allow 1h30 for cooking and so on.
Remember to baste the meat with its cooking juices during its time in the oven to soften it. At the end of cooking, the roast should be browned on top and tender inside.
Slow cooking
You can also cook your pork roast more slowly. Slow cooking is more forgiving because it's done at a lower temperature, so a few too many times in the oven won't ruin your pork. Preheat the oven to 180˚F and bake the piece of meat for approximately 2 ½ to 3 hours. This cooking time is for pork roasts which are approximately 1 kg.
How to cook it in the Slow Cooker?
For pork loins, you can allow 4 to 5 hours of cooking over low heat (Low) for tender and juicy meat. If you choose a piece of pork shoulder as a roast, it must be cooked for approximately 10 hours over low heat (for a pork roast weighing 1.5 to 2.5 kg). Shoulder is a tougher cut of pork and therefore requires a longer cooking time. These cuts have more marbled fat and therefore are natural choices for slow cooker pork roasts. During cooking, the fat melts, making the meat wonderfully juicy. You can also cook your piece for 2 to 3 hours at high temperature, depending on the size of the pork loin.
How do I add flavor to my roast?
To do before cooking: In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Salt and pepper the pork all over, then sear your meat on a pan with a little butter to brown its sides and make it crispy (about 3 minutes on each side). This will add flavor to your meat and give it the “roasted” appearance we love so much. It only takes a few minutes, but makes all the difference!!
You can also prepare a sauce that you will incorporate when cooking your roast. While your pork roast is cooking, you can baste the meat a few times. This will add flavor to your meat.
How do I check doneness?
To check the doneness of your roast, start by removing it from the oven (if made in the oven). Then insert the meat thermometer into the center of the roast. The internal temperature of the meat should be between 65 and 68°C. At 75°C, your meat will be completely cooked.
One piece of advice we can give you is to only cut your roast to see if the inside is cooked. This will lose all the juice from your piece of meat. If you don't have a thermometer, place your index finger on the meat and apply light pressure. If your roast is soft while resisting a little under your fingers, this means that it is cooked correctly, that is to say that it remains tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. But the ideal option is still to use a kitchen thermometer. The device judges, with much more precision, whether the meat is sufficiently cooked.
What do I accompany it with?
For a gourmet roast pork with savory aromas, try the roast pork with mustard or the roast pork with honey . To do this, simply brush your piece of meat with one of these two ingredients before cooking and accompany it with finely chopped shallots or small onions. You can also mix the two to create a recipe that is as sweet as it is spicy.
You can also cook your roast pork very well with small diced vegetables, such as carrots and potatoes. Whether you do it in the oven or in the slow cooker, these vegetables will cook at the bottom of your casserole dish and at the bottom of the dish with the cooking juices and olive oil at the same time as the meat. In addition to being easy to add to your recipe, it will bring great additional flavors to your vegetables!
